National protest 29 september

We call on everyone to be at Dam Square in Amsterdam on Sunday 29 September between 3 and 5 pm. You are welcome from 2:45 pm and the protest starts at 3 pm. For almost a year, millions of Palestinian men, women and children have been murdered, injured and terrorized every day. We simply have to do something all together. Read more about what we are going to do and how you can prepare!

Najib Amhali, Katja Schuurman, Isa Hoes, Lakshmi, Natasja Gibbs, Shariff Nasr, Jennifer Ewbank, Salwa van der Gaag, Taghreed El-Khodary, Eva Duivesteijn, Ouassima Tajmout, Anniek Pheifer, Fernando Halman, Nous van der Gijp, Maya-Nora Saaid, Jaap Hamburger, Hiske Bongaarts, Mo Kotesh, Berber van der Woude, Mohammed van Palestinian Videos and the Gazaanse Yalla3 Dabke, are just a few of the many people who will be contributing.

Stage for voices from Palestine

Palestinians are not heard enough. We want Palestinians to speak. We want words that Palestinians themselves have said to be heard on Dam Square in Amsterdam. Read by famous Dutch people. Amplified by everyone present, and by music that touches.

Many people seem to have the same feeling: “this has to stop” “what else can we do” “let’s try everything, as long as we do something”. And that is what this is, together making the voice of Palestinians heard, and together showing that we believe that the killing of Palestinian people has to stop. Because in the meantime thousands and thousands of Palestinians have been murdered, and practically everything that makes life liveable, such as schools, universities, shops, roads, homes have been destroyed.

We are not only going to listen, we are also going to do this together. So come with everyone you know. Bring your family, friends and colleagues. Because it will be a beautiful action and only together we will make an impact.

Prepare yourself

There are probably images and statements that people from Palestine shared that have stuck with you. What touched you in the past (almost) 12 months? Make a protest sign, print out a photo from social media, stick it on a piece of cardboard and write a text underneath. Or just write the quote in large letters. In this way we can show the people in Gaza, the West Bank and all of Palestine that they are seen and heard by people in the world. Because after almost 1 year of sharing all the pain, they regularly ask themselves:

Do the people in the world care about us?
What are our lives worth?

No march, but taking the streets together

Photo: Oh Beautiful World

Week after week, people take to the streets. They call for an end to the violence inflicted on Palestinians. They express their anger, show their solidarity. After seeing the march, it is not difficult for other people passing-by to simply continue with their day. That is why we want to try something different.

After this protest, we ask everyone to pick up a package of leaflets. These leaflets contain quotes from Palestinians and a QR code for ways in which everyone can do something. Because many people want to do something, but still do not know exactly what, and often do not even know how badly it is needed. That is why we want to take the streets together, but alone, after the protest. What if thousands of people on their way to their homes really talk to the people they meet and give them a flyer. In the conversation, you can simply say:

I was just at Dam Square and there I heard the story of ... that touched me because ... and I want Palestinians to be able to live freely and safely. I need your help with that.

Then you can have a conversation. For many people this feels difficult or scary, but when we all do it at once, it is much less scary. And eventually everything you do a few times becomes easier and easier, and you can make so much impact with it.
